Hello friends welcome to my blog http://techsonwheel.blogspot.in/. In
this new era we have seen many innovative cars evolved around us and along with
the regular taste. The big V8, mighty V12, fuel efficient cars, hybrid cars and
electric cars or EV’s. As the days are passing by we are leaving our carbon
footprint in nature by our vehicles, industries etc. So as to reduce this
carbon footprint by vehicles we have shifted partly towards hybrid and electric
vehicles.
Tesla Model S |
Today
I’m going to tell about a car which runs on batteries but competes with the big
V8 in terms of performance, ride quality and cost of running. Tesla Motors Inc.
founded by Elon Musk, Martin Eberhard, Marc Tempenning, JB Straubel, Ian Wright
in the year 2003 sells electric cars and electric vehicle powertrain
components.
The
Palo Alto Company gain widespread attention by producing their Tesla Roadstar,
the first fully electric sports car. The company’s second vehicle is the Tesla
Model S the electric luxury sedan. The Tesla Model S dispels conventional
thinking about EV’s with spacious & luxurious interiors, driving dynamics,
ride comfort along with 200 miles of range. The Tesla Model S is a full sized
five door electric sedan. It was released on the 2nd quarter of 2013
in Europe. There are presently two models available one is equipped with 85kWh
Li-on Battery which can travel 426km (265 miles) and the other is packed with
60 kWh Battery with a range of 335km (208 miles). The Tesla is expected to release
a base model with 40 kWh Battery with range of 260 km (160 miles).
The Model S Signature model with an 85 kWh pack rated by EPA has a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) and accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 97 km/h) in5.4 seconds. The Model S Signature Performance model has a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h) and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, while the base 60 kWh battery model has a top speed of 120 mph (190 km/h) and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. The Model S is offered with two battery packs a base model with 60 kWh Battery with range 335 km and 85 kWh Battery with range 426 km. The 85 kWh Battery packs 7,104 Lithium Ion battery cells in 16 modules wired in series and the 65 kWh Battery packs around 5432 Lithium Ion battery cells. Tesla motors guarantee the Model S BATTERY FOR 201,000 km or Eight years. The 80 kWh battery pack gets guarantee of Eight years and unlimited miles. The Model S takes pride in having flat floor as it packs the battery modules in floor of the vehicle with lower centre of gravity.
The Tesla Model S can get fully in 30 hrs. From a household 120 V/15 A outlet the car recharged by 8 km in every hour. Through 10 kWh 240 V/30 A outlet the Model S gets charged up 50km in every hour. Using Tesla 20 kWh, 240 V High Power Wall Connector and the range can be restored by 100 km for every hour if the car is configured with twin charger (20 kWh). The Tesla Supercharger can add up to 320 km in 30 min. Supercharging is available in the 85 kWh variant. But as an extra option of $2500 the 60 kWh that can be enable supercharging any time only it just requires minor software change.
The Tesla Model S has 17in LCD display in the centre console of the car which displays all the information and controls of the car from air-conditioning, audio and functions such as regeneration braking, air suspension height even the charge-port hatch, sunroof and demisters. Only glitch is that everyone must have a reliable 3G to power the Satnav. The 60 kWh variant crosses 0-97km/h in 5.9 sec with a top speed of 193km/h. The 85 kWh variant crosses 0-97km/h in 5.4 sec with a top speed 200km/h and lastly the Model S Signature Edition (85 kWh) marks 0-97km/h in 4.2 sec with a top speed of 210km/h.
Prices start at $49,900 for 60 kWh and $69,080 for 85 kWh variant. It has got many awards from different companies ‘The most stylish car’, ’Car of the year in Norway’, ‘Car of the Future’, ‘Motor Trend’s Car of the year’ etc. It’s a brilliant car in many ways but lack many features and naïve, arrogant in some ways and I think it fix them as time passes. Unfortunately it isn't available in India.
Got any queries then post it below on the comment box.
